NRA Personal Protection In the Home

This course satisfies Michigan's training requirements to obtain a concealed pistol license

Course Goal:
To develop in the students the basic knowledge, skills and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding citizen's right to self-defense.

Course Pre-requisites:  Completion of basic handgun training or equivalent experience.

Course Overview:

  1. Introduction to Defensive Shooting
  2. Basic Defensive Handgun Skills
  3. Firearms and the Law: Possession, Ownership, and the use of Deadly Force
  4. Strategies for Home Safety and Responding to a Violent Confrontation
  5. Selecting a Handgun for Self-Defense
  6. Sport Shooting Activities and Training Opportunities
  7. Course Review and Examination

Course Length:  10 hours        Cost:  $125 + ammunition

What Student Needs to Bring to Class

  • A handgun in good working order.
    (Note: loaners may be available please call to discuss your needs)
    • Recommended are either double action revolvers or semi-automatics
    • Recommended minimum caliber is 38 special or 9mm.
    • NO magnum ammo allowed (i.e. 357 mag, 44mag, 357 Sig).
  • (2) speed loaders for revolvers or minimum (2) magazines for semi-autos.
  • (125) rounds of Factory New Ammo.
    (no reloaded or remanufactured ammo allowed)
  • Ear & Eye Protection.
  • Ball Cap
  • Note pad & pen/pencil.
  • Optional Items
    • Knee pads
    • Lunch
    • Water/Pop/Snacks
